Here's our lowdown on Le Taha'a Private Island Resort & Spa

- Our Favorites -

Room at Le Taha'a
Sitting Area

ROOM - The rooms at Le Taha'a Private Island Resort & Spa are spectacular. We chose the Overwater Bungalows (OWB) and we highly recommend the OWB vs. the Beach Villas. The Overwater Bungalows were well appointed and had a very luxurious feel. The bathroom was terrific with a deep soaker tub and all the amenities. The bungalow has a private deck with comfortable lounges as well as a covered sitting area that was perfect for relaxing in the South Pacific sun. Another aspect of the room that we just loved was the huge picture window that afforded us dramatic views. It was really special to wake up in the morning to absolutely breathtaking views of island of Taha'a. The rooms have everything we wanted and expected from a resort of this caliber. Amazing rooms with spectacular views, just another reason we love Le Taha'a Private Island Resort & Spa

SERVICE - The service was impeccable at Le Taha'a Private Island. It started when the General Manager met us at the heliport after the helicopter ride over from Bora Bora (we highly recommend the Helicopter option if available ... awesome ride and amazing views !!) and ends with the General Manager and another staff member seeing us off on our boat ride to the airport. Upon check-in we were informed "there are no problems here, only solutions". Service at the spa, restaurants and housekeeping was excellent. We had one experience at the bar where the bartender did not see we needed another drink. After a couple of minutes he noticed and took our order. A member of management was nearby, saw the lack of prompt service and informed us our drink was on the house. Just an example of how the staff at Le Taha'a is attentive to what is happening at their resort. If you love to be pampered and enjoy great service with a local Polynesian flair, you are in for a treat at Le Taha'a Private Island & Resort!

SECLUSION - When we arrived at Le Taha'a, we were given a tour of the resort after which we felt like we melted into a feeling of grand seclusion. You rarely see other guests as you stroll through the grounds. At the pool you have plenty of room to spread out, relax and unwind in comfort and quiet. There is a private Motu that you can lounge on if you really want to be by yourself. The private deck on your bungalow allows you to enjoy the beautiful sun and warmth of Taha'a in complete and total seclusion. We really felt like we were completely isolated from the world. If we wanted to go to the island of Taha'a there was ample opportunity, but for most of our trip, we chose to sit back and enjoy the feel of a truly exclusive luxury resort.

DON'T MISS :
Breathtaking views back to Bora Bora
- Le Taha'a Private Island it so wonderful, it is easy to just get lost in the resort and bask in the glow of glorious seclusion. But while you are at the resort, don't forget to look around and take in the extraordinary views that wait. One of the most beautiful sights in our experience was the view back to Bora Bora.

Helicopter from Bora Bora
Helicopter from Bora Bora

Another - Not to Miss
Helicopter to the Le Taha'a Private Island - As mentioned above, if you are traveling over from Bora Bora, the Helicopter option is really an awesome experience. Besides making the trip in only 5-10 minutes, we had breathtaking aerial views of Bora Bora as we traveled to Le Taha'a. It can be expensive, but check with your travel agent to see if there are any deals available. Another thing to remember is that you will save a lot of time ... and this will give you even more time to soak up the luxury that is Le Taha'a private island. We thought the Helicopter was worth it; great views, time saved and quite a thrill ride!

- Other Good Stuff -

Pool at Le Taha'a Private Island Resort and Spa
Pool at Le Taha'a

Pool - The pool area at Le Taha'a Private Resort overlooks the lagoon and is very comfortable and quiet with lounge chairs placed over a wooden deck. We had no problem finding space and the service was very good. There is a bar at the pool, with a swim up "wet bar", so you could have a drink delivered to your lounge or just swim over in the pool. We found the pool to be very relaxing and the views of the lagoon were an added bonus. If you like a little pool time on your vacation, Le Taha'a will have you hooked up in an instant.

Beach - The beach at Le Taha'a is not what we expected from your normal tropical type beach. You are on your own private motu (small island), so you have optimal seclusion and plenty of places to soak up some tropical sun. You also get the Le Taha'a luxury service for your beach stay. But the beach is not your typical crescent with miles of sand. You will get a great spot to relax; it is just a slightly different beach experience. And did we mention you are on your own, private motu. Just one of the unique experiences you will find in French Polynesia.

Taha'a Island Tour
Taha'a Island Tour

Activities - Le Taha'a Private Island Resort & Spa provides you with all the excursions and activities that you could want in your Tahitian tropical vacation. There is shark feeding, cruises, jet ski rental, etc. The excursion we chose was the 4x4 island tour. We saw a vanilla farm, toured a pearl farm where you could buy black pearls and then toured the island in a 4x4. It was very interesting to get out and see the islands and how the locals live. The tour over the mountains was pretty rough (you definitely needed four-wheel drive) but the views of the island and the lagoon from the top of Taha'a was awesome and we would highly recommend this tour. Remember, whichever excursions you want to experience, the staff at Le Taha'a will get you set up in no time at all.

- And Our Not So Favorite Things -

Price - Le Taha'a Private Island Resort & Spa is expensive ... there ... I said it. No getting around the costs, but when staying at one of the most exclusive resorts in the South Pacific, we expected the price to be high. We came to Le Taha'a to enjoy an exclusive, secluded luxury vacation and we were prepared for the cost. Be prepared for the cost, but make sure you concentrate on all the luxury, seclusion and pampering that Le Taha'a has to offer. And remember, you are worth it!

Food - We found the food to be below the quality of every other aspect of this resort. The quality of the breakfasts and lunches were good, but not great. The dinners we had were not special and below our expectations. We did not have the opportunity to try one of the beach barbecues or seafood buffets, so we cannot comment on those offerings. We found most of the food in Tahiti to be just fair, so maybe this has to do with the remote location of the islands. We come to exotic, tropical locations for the sun and sand, so this was not a big issue for us, but we feel it is worth noting.

Spa - I love going to the spa! But I must say I was disappointed with the spa at Le Taha'a. The spa building was itself was understated; no relaxation rooms or shower facilities. The treatment was good; they use lotions and oils made from the locally grown vanilla which smelled wonderful. Overall it just seemed to be missing that something extra that I have come to expect at exceptional spas. I guess my expectations were pretty high with the name Le Taha'a Resort & "Spa". Still the treatment was good and you cannot beat the location.

Resort Room Prices
Le Taha'a Private Island is one of the most exclusive resorts in the world. You get a level of service and seclusion that is sought out by very private people as well as celebrities and the like. Le Taha'a is very expensive, but with the seclusion comes a price. The types of folks who stay at Le Taha'a are either people for whom cost is not a concern or people like us who were looking for a very special experience for a special occasion. Either way, Le Taha'a is a special place that gives you a feeling of luxury and seclusion that is hard to find in this world.

ADVICE: Get the Overwater Bungalow !!!!!!!!!!!!
I know they are expensive and you can save money with a garden room just steps from the beach, but I am here to tell you the overwater bungalow is worth it!
There is nothing like the overwater bungalow. They are romantic. They are fun. They are unique. They give you the feeling that you cannot get at any other luxury properties.
When you are looking at what room class to book, you may be tempted to save some $, but I strongly suggest splurging for the overwater bungalow. It will be an experience you will not forget.

In French Polynesia, the there are 2 "seasons":

SeasonDates
DryJune 1 - November 1
WetNovember 2 - May 31

Since it is the tropics, you are going to get rain not matter when you go; you just get less during the dry season. Remember that prices will be higher during the dry season, so if you have flexibility in your travel dates and don't mind taking a chance on a little rain, you can save some money during the "wet" season.

Weather on Taha'a in French Polynesia

Le Taha'a Private Island Resort & Spa is located on the coral reef motu of Tautau and is a 10 minute boat ride from the island of Taha'a. Taha'a is nicknamed the "Vanilla Island" because of fragrant scent of vanilla that pervades the island and the fact that the island boasts 80% of all Tahiti's Vanilla production. The weather in Taha'a is similar to all the islands in French Polynesia, warm temperatures year round and cooling breezes from the trade winds. You get rain in Taha'a, as in all of French Polynesia, but the showers tend to be relatively short, even during the wet season.

While the temperatures are very consistent year round, you will get more rain from November through May. Even during the wet season, the rain usually lasts for a short period of time. Even during the dry season you can expect to get showers, but they are less frequent. During the wet season, you will also get more humidity, so this is something to keep in mind when planning your vacation.

Rainfall - Specific rainfall data for Taha'a is difficult to obtain, so the chart to the right shows average rainfall for Bora Bora which is very close to Taha'a. (If you wish to see average rainfall for Papeete: Click for Papeete Chart). Rain is common in Taha'a, but you can lessen your chance for rain by traveling in the "dry" season which runs from roughly June through November. We always try to avoid the rainy season whenever we travel to a tropical destination. The challenge is that the cost is more during this time. You will need to do the cost/benefit to see if the extra $ is worth less chance of rain. Another way to handle the chance of rain is to just go with the flow. You are in the tropics. It rains. Be prepared to deal with it. Just remember that you are in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Remember to enjoy all the beauty, even if it includes a little rain.

The South Pacific Cyclone (Hurricane) season runs from approximately November 1 through April 30 and coincides with the hot, wet summer season. January and February are the 2 months when tropical cyclones are most likely to form. Cyclones (Hurricanes) are not common for Le Taha'a or French Polynesia in general, but they do occur, so make sure you take them into account when planning your South Pacific Vacation.
